Dental picks are used for fine excavation and removal of small, fragile delicate objects -- when a trowel is just too big and clumsy. In Nubia the objects you might need a dental pick for include things like bone that is falling apart, metal that is wasting away, cloth, leather, and even pottery. Dental picks can also be used to remove the dirt and other material stuck to delicate artifacts after they are removed from a site.
