Global Positioning System (GPS)
A GPS is a handheld computer that identifies its exact position on earth by latitude and longitude. It uses signals from satellites to do this. A GPS is especially useful for archaeologists who are working on sites that aren't near any visible landmarks (like in a desert). If you have no landmarks, how do you tell where you are? A GPS is one way. You can also use the GPS when you are traveling at night in the desert, for it can help you find your way, even if no stars are visible.
